Changing walls, floors or facades with AI photo retouching

Change the color of the walls, the floor covering or the look of a facade with AI to modernize your photos and help your clients picture themselves there.

Written by Sophie Delpech

In brief

The Repaint tool lets you change certain surfaces in a photo in just a few clicks, without touching the structure of the property:

  • indoors: the color of the walls and the floor covering;

  • outdoors: the look of the facade and the outdoor floor.

The AI automatically detects the surfaces and applies the new color or covering, preserving the shadows, natural light, volumes and textures as much as possible.

This feature is ideal to help your future buyers picture themselves in a property that needs a refresh, or to modernize dated decor.

Before you start

Your photo must be added to a project. If it isn't yet, see the article Getting started with AI photo retouching.

Changing walls, floors or facades

Step 1: Open the Repaint tool

Open your project, click the photo you want to retouch, then click Repaint in the left menu.

The options offered depend on the type of photo: indoor or outdoor.

Step 2: Change an interior

Paint the walls: click one of the 13 colors offered, or Custom color to choose your shade in the color picker or enter its hexadecimal code (it starts with #).

Change the floor: choose one of the 6 parquet or tile finishes.

Step 3: Change an exterior

Clad the facade: choose one of the 8 finishes offered (paint, brick, wood or render).

Change the outdoor floor: choose one of the 6 finishes offered.

For both the facade and the outdoor floor, you can also import a reference image, for example a photo of the covering you want.

Step 4: Start the retouch and download your photo

You can change both surfaces at once: for example, the walls and floor of a living room.

Click Repaint. The AI applies the change to all surfaces of the chosen type that it detects in the photo: you do not select a specific area.

Once the retouch is complete, click Before / After to compare with the original photo. The history keeps every version of the photo.

If you are happy with the result, you can add a watermark with the Watermark tool (see the article Adding a watermark to your retouched photos), then download the photo from the … menu on the photo, or all the photos in the project with Export all images.

FAQ

1. Does the Repaint tool work on outdoor photos?

Yes. On an outdoor photo, you can change the facade and the outdoor floor, using the finishes offered or your own reference image.

2. Can I repaint a single wall?

No. The AI repaints all surfaces of the chosen type that it detects in the photo. For a change limited to a specific spot, use the Customize with AI tool with a drawn area.

3. Will the tool change my furniture or the structure of the room?

No. Repaint only acts on surfaces detected as walls, floors or a facade. The furniture, decor and structure (doors, windows, partitions) are not meant to be changed.

4. What can I do if I'm not happy with the color or covering I chose?

You can:

  • choose another color or covering, then click Repaint again;

  • go back to a previous version or to the original photo with the history.

5. Why are some surfaces not perfectly retouched?

The result depends on the quality of the photo (sharpness, light, resolution), the shooting angle and how cluttered the room is. On very dark, blurry or cluttered photos, the AI may find it harder to detect all the surfaces.

6. How do I delete a photo from a project?

Open the photo, click the … menu on the photo, then choose Delete image.

Best practices 🎓

  • Use sharp, well-exposed photos, ideally taken in daylight, so that the AI correctly detects the surfaces.

  • Avoid overly cluttered rooms: if the floor is almost entirely hidden by furniture, the result will be more limited.

  • Stick to plausible colors for real estate (off-white, beige, light gray, natural wood…) to help buyers picture themselves there.

  • When you significantly change the look of a property, add a mention such as "Layout suggestion by Danim" with the Watermark tool.
