Choosing and setting the music of your video

Choose royalty-free music or import your own, then set the excerpt and the looped playback of your video.

Written by Sophie Delpech

In brief

The 2. Finalization step of the editor is used to set up the soundtrack of your video.

You can keep the music provided with the template, choose another track from our royalty-free music library, import your own file, or create a video without music. You then choose which part of the track to use.

Before you start

  • The Finalization step only exists for videos: images and carousels have no soundtrack.

  • It becomes available as soon as your project contains at least one slide.

  • Music is available with all plans.

Choosing and setting the music

Step 1: Open the Finalization step

From the 1. Editing step, click Next until the last slide, or click the 2. Finalization tab directly, at the top of the editor.

Step 2: Turn the music on or off

In the Music block, use the toggle to turn the music on or off. When it is off, your video is generated without music. Videos placed in your slides keep their own sound (see FAQ).

With the music on, you can see the current track: its title and artist. For an imported file, Danim shows the title saved in the file, or otherwise its name.

Step 3: Choose your music

Two options:

  • Music library: choose a track from our royalty-free selection (step 3.a).

  • Import a file (icon in the Music block): add music from your computer or phone (step 3.b).

Step 3.a: Choose from the music library

Click Music library. To find the right track, you can:

  • search by keyword;

  • filter by Category, Energy (Very low, Low, Medium or High), Characteristic, Genre or Instrument;

  • show only your Favorites, as soon as you have at least one.

Tracks are presented in two sections: Your favorite music and All our music. Click See more to display the whole section: more tracks load as you scroll.

For each track, you can:

  • listen to it: a player opens at the bottom of the window, with Play and Pause;

  • add it to your favorites by clicking the star;

  • add it to your video with Add to video: the button changes to Added.

Step 3.b: Import your own music

Click the Import a file icon, then select an audio file.

Accepted formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC and OPUS. With another format, a message lets you know when the project is saved.

Step 4: Choose the part of the track

Below the preview (below the Music block on mobile and tablet), the Edit your music track shows the total length of the track. Move its handles to choose the start and end of the part used, and use the playback buttons to listen to it.

The loop button is only used to replay the selected part continuously while you set it: it does not change the video.

Step 5: Move on to sharing

Once you have finished, click Next or go directly to the 3. Sharing step to generate your video.

If your video has already been generated, generate it again from the Sharing step so that the new music is taken into account.

Good to know

  • Music shorter than the video: it automatically starts again from the beginning, until the end of the video.

  • Music longer than the video: it stops at the end of the video, with a short fade.

  • The music volume is set automatically and cannot be changed.

FAQ

1. Can I create a video without music?
Yes. Turn off the toggle in the Music block in the Finalization step. If your slides contain videos with sound, also mute them (question 5).

2. Can I use my own music?
Yes, with Import a file (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or OPUS). Make sure you have the right to use this track, especially if you post the video on social media. The music in our library is royalty-free.

3. My music repeats in the video. How can I avoid this?
Music shorter than the video always starts again from the beginning. To avoid the repetition, choose a track longer than your video, or widen the selected part.

4. I changed the music, but my generated video has not changed. Why?
The music is taken into account at generation. Go to the Sharing step and generate your video again.

5. The video added to a slide has its own sound, how do I mute it?
In the Editing step, click the … icon on the video, then Edit montage: there you can mute or unmute this video. On some slides, the sound of videos is muted automatically and cannot be turned back on.

6. Why can't I see the Finalization step?
It only exists for videos. For a video, it becomes available as soon as you have added a first slide.

7. A message tells me that my music is no longer available, what should I do?
The music file can no longer be played: it has been removed from the preview. Choose another track from the library or import a file to replace it.

8. My file is not accepted. Why?
Check its format (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or OPUS) and that it opens correctly on your device. A damaged file displays the message "Unable to read audio metadata".

Best practices 🎓

  • Choose music that suits your message: low energy for a calm tour or a luxury property, high energy for dynamic content on social media.

  • Choose a track at least as long as your video to avoid it repeating.

  • Watch your whole video before generating it, to check that the music does not stop at the wrong moment.

  • Add your favorite tracks to your favorites to keep a consistent sound from one video to the next.
