Why Does This Format Work So Well on Social Media?

Formats like "What People Think," "Fiction vs. Reality," "Expectations vs. Reality," or the latest "Of Course" Challenge... You’ve probably seen them all over your social media. And for good reason ! They are excellent attention grabbers, driving likes, shares, and even the chance of going viral !

But to truly make the most of this format, it's crucial to understand why it works and how to use the key elements that make it effective. Here are three golden rules to follow for a successful video using this format 👇

It must be relatable

To create a strong connection with your audience, your video should tap into a common experience or shared stereotype. The more universal the situation, the wider your reach !

On the other hand, if your scenario is too specific or something only you can relate to, your message won’t resonate.

💡 What are some idealized situations in real estate that don’t match reality ?

Example : Clients magically signing mandates without the agent making any effort.

It should have a touch of humor

This can come from exaggerated situations, false assumptions, strong contrasts, or even self-deprecating humor ! Entertainment is a key part of social media-funny content stands out and is more memorable. The bigger the contrast, the more impactful the message !

💡 What’s the real-life situation behind the idealized one ?

Example : Endless door-knocking during prospecting, only to get rejected repeatedly.

It must be short and instantly understandable

Your message should be short and snappy, just like the best jokes ! On social media, a duration of 5 to 15 seconds works best.

🚨 Key rule : Your audience should instantly get the joke or situation : it should require zero explanation.

💡 How can I emphasize the message I want to convey ?

Example:

What People Think : A video of me answering the phone : "Hello ? Oh, you want to sell your house ? Amazing ! Come to my agency this afternoon !"

Reality : A montage of multiple short clips of me getting doors slammed in my face while prospecting.

Bonus idea : The "Of Course" challenge

This trend relies on sarcasm to debunk common myths !

🎥 Try this : Stand in front of the camera and say : "I'm a real estate agent, of course I drive a Porsche !"
Then, cut to a shot of your actual car (does not work if it's actually a Porsche😉)!
